Frequently asked questions
General
We provide structural engineering evaluations for homes. In simple terms, we take a closer look at specific structural concerns, explain what’s going on, and help you understand what your next steps should be.
A structural evaluation is more focused. Instead of a broad overview of the entire house, we zero in on specific structural concerns. The site visit and report are completed by a licensed professional engineer, and the findings are documented in a signed and sealed report that carries more authority than a standard inspection.
If you’re worried about a structural issue, guessing is usually more expensive in the long run. A structural evaluation gives you clear, professional insight into what’s actually happening so you can make informed decisions—whether that means fixing something now, monitoring it, or realizing it’s not a problem at all.
Contracting can often be completed in as little as one day. Once the site visit is scheduled and payment is received, the written report is typically delivered within 3–5 business days after the on-site visit.
The engineer uses specialized measurement tools to collect data, takes photographs, and reviews the specific structural concern and the surrounding area. Most site visits take 45 minutes to about 1½ hours, depending on the situation.
Yes—within scope. We provide engineering-based options and best-practice approaches tailored to your specific concern. Depending on your goals, we’ll outline possible paths forward so you can decide what makes the most sense.
No. We don’t design repair plans or construction drawings. What we do provide is professional engineering judgment—what the issue appears to be, how serious it is, and what types of corrective actions are typically appropriate.
That’s outside our scope. Our work is focused on existing structural concerns—identifying problems, understanding why they’re happening, and outlining practical ways they can be addressed from an engineering standpoint.
Yes. That’s one of the primary reasons people request a structural evaluation. Reports are prepared by a licensed engineer and are suitable for review by insurance carriers, lenders, and other professionals.
Within the bounds of our terms of service, reports are typically valid for one calendar year from the date of the site visit.
That’s actually a great outcome—and it’s more common than people expect. In many cases, the issue turns out not to be structural, which allows for more flexibility and peace of mind. When that happens, we’ll still provide guidance on what to monitor over time so you can stay ahead of any changes.
